What is the make and model of the old school gadget in the picture below?

After a few days of running with the new N97mini firmware, i have noticed some interesting changes.

Mainly the speed of the menus and general flow of the phone is better. Available ram appears to be more when idle, although im not sure what was available before the update.

The new firmware adds timed profiles, which has limited use in comparison to other profile schedule apps. the timed feature simply allows the chosen profile to “expire”. but i wont be using this feature as Profileshceduler is far superior.

When the first upgrade was made available Vodafone UK took quite a long time to release their take on it, so i gave up waiting and changed my product code. Before you try the update make sure to change back to your original code as the update was not available for all handsets / product codes.

If your using the new firmware and have noticed other changes please let me know an i can add them into this post.

-EDIT-

Ok so this might be me but alhough the phone is faster it seems that rotation inthe home screen no longer works! Random. It could be a memory saving choice by nokia as ppl probably don’t use the home screen in landscape? But I don’t believe that really so it must be a bug. More updates as I find them.

EDIT:19/06/2010

Just had to hard resset my n97mini again after the firmware upgrade. a strange bug ment that i was unable to see the homescreen in landscape! the reset appears to have fixed this. in the hard reswet process i decided it would be a good time to test the restore feature again.

I stopped using this feature after repeated corruptions in the back up of settings which meant that i was un able to use wifi or access the destinations feature. Crashing each time i tried. I’m just restoring now so i will be able to see if it works in a second…….

Ok just finished the restoration, seems to have worked quite well. the only items that appear to have not been recorded and restored are the licences for my paid apps. this could be a security feature though. It’s only a small hassle having to re-enter in the serials.

The restore function s still rubish wifi doesnt work and deleting and re connecting to the access point doesnt work!

You heard it here first! sort it out Nokia! maybe one day this feature will work. but ill probably have upgraded by then. Fail!

OK! just got a super random sms message from nokia informing me about the availability of a firmware update thats available for my n97mini??? random.

If you havent already got it head on over to the nokia software updater page atnokia’s web site to get the software update tool.

If you changed your product code, like i did to update for the first time, then you will need to change back. Im on uk Vodafone in formation on product code can be found here.

I’ll have a post up tonight with the change log and any performance test.

Expect some disruption this weekend going to buy a new domain and migrate my wordpress to external hosting at my house thanks to @buzzinh.

In the mean time stay tuned for much free stuf. Got sone nice givaways!

Just a head up this weeks action will include a competition to WIN one of three serial codes for abbyy fototranslate, new reveiws and a chance for everyone to get an insane 100% discount at abbyy for try buisness card reader?!

Stay tuned!

Ok I’m posting this because I only recently realised this was another way around the bug in n97 and n97mini firmware that stops the application manager from opening.

Essesntially what happens when one installs many apps, or as I like to call it gets “ovi-fever”, is that you will not be able to see your list of installed apps.

On some handsets an error is flashed up, but in many instances he app manaer just quits. One fix for this would be for nokia to just sort it out, but I feel this is unlikley.

The fix I speak of is as follows:

Just go to you menu, by pressing…. The menu button. Then hit “options”, (see screen shot).

Once your in this organisation mode you can un-install any app, (ecept system apps), by pressing the delete key. You willthen ve prompted to agree press yes and bam, See screen shot.

The number of apps you will need to unistall will vary, so frequent trips back to the settings tab will be usfull when u realise you don’t want to start deleting your favorite apps.
